Filler Words or Lines!!

We all have filler words and lines we say from sentence to sentence...

for example um.. ahhh.. shhhhhhh...etc

the most common words for me are...

"You know what Im saying"
"Sooo"
"Well"

Some of the things here that can really mess up the flow of a conversation!

so..like.. ummm... i totally understand.... like...yeah

Hate when people talk to me using umm like and totally. I have tried to eradicate them from my usable vocabulary

Same here, not much use for that...This is usually when I get stuck stacking material and whatnot

Basically. I hate that word!

I'm guilty of using "like" too much. I also use "in any case" quite a bit...

I have made a concious effort not to say these types of words as much. I know that many people use cuss words as filler words.

The best thing to do is replace those words and phrases with pauses...i learned this in a public speaking class.

A good method for training yourself is to talk to yourself in the mirror, and record what your saying. Listen back to it and notice all of the fillers. Then do the same thing and this time everytime you feel like you might use a filler word stop talking...breathe in, exhale, then start talking again.

Another good trick is to go out with a close friend, tell them everytime you say "like" as a filler you want them to make mention of it to you...in other words mid sentance you use like as a filler and they cut you off to tell you. Get cut off 50 times that night and you'll start making a effort to pause instead.

This is tuff to accomplish, i tend to do uh and um...and pause..i mix up pausing and um and uh about 50/50.

I know someone that uses a nervous laugh as a filler.

Wow I just saying "Fucking" if I lose my train of thought or as a filler....

If asked a question I got to think about I say "Fucking uhhhh"
